Eco Alpha is Released!

November 24, 2015

Welcome to Eco Alpha.

We’re very proud to announce the public alpha build of Eco is officially released! Download on our website by logging into your account here and clicking the link. Alpha-tier backers and above are invited to jump in the game (new/other tier backers can join or upgrade on our website, and we’ll be keeping the Kickstarter prices until tomorrow).

Here’s our alpha notes if you missed them from Friday with details on the launch. To find a server to play, use our forums here (which unfortunately are slammed right now and unresponsive, we’re working to up their bandwidth as we speak), as well as the Eco Sub-Reddit, Eco-Nation, and Dewy Hills. We will be putting up public servers of our own later in the week, but finding a community to play with will be an ideal way to start off, so check out those community links for the best experience.

Note: There was a problem with email verifications not working, and support emails not getting through. Those have been fixed now, so if you’ve had trouble with either in the past try it again. Any problems email support@strangeloopgames.com directly.

We’ll be patching frequently through the week so use the forums (once they’re upgraded) to post bugs and we’ll get them fixed asap, and looking forward to hearing your high-level gameplay feedback and experiences as well.

So without further ado, welcome to the game. It’s great to have you here for the first public launch of what we believe will be an amazing journey.

The Eco Team is a collection of introverted and sometimes genius programmers/designers based in Seattle and Australia. We all grew up and thrive in the video game culture, so of course making them is our dream job. We look forward to continuing to put out quality games for the community of players.

Skype has opened up its online-structured consumer beta on the world, right
after introducing it broadly within the United
states and You.K. before this calendar month. Skype
for Online also now supports Linux and Chromebook for
instant text messaging communication (no voice and video nevertheless, individuals demand a connect-in installation).

The increase from the beta provides help for an extended listing of
languages to help you strengthen that overseas user friendliness

After receiving my Alpha 5 Released email I went to the webpage looked around (it said Mac is supported) and so I bought 2 games. I downloaded and installed… just to see the graphics all screwed up (not really able to play)… how is this possible? After searching for a while I found out that Mac isn’t supported (just a Unity port without too much care) and for around a year now… no change? Are you guys serious still selling the game for mac users… blacked out graphics, tools and resources flipped upside down?

I’m not having too much fun for 70$ right now and I need a date when this will be fixed… or a refund… this is useless and a shame… all the excitement and frustration. -.- Why is there a Mac client download when it wasn’t tested and fixed?

This game is still in Alpha, a software in an Alpha phase is not feature complete and not guaranteed to function or be playable at all. This is a testing period, you should wait until it is in Beta or Release phase before assuming the game will function as intended regularly.

Hi, I can’t get onto the forum for some reason but I have a bug to report:
When I make scrolls from my Civics skill book, if I drag from My Items in the workbench to my current stack of scrolls, it is not removed from the My Items box. So I got a stack of 64 civics scrolls like this.

You can reproduce this by having a Civics scroll in your inventory, and then dragging a civics scroll from My Items (in workbench) to the current stack of civics scrolls.

If you bring it to a new inventory slot, it is finally removed from My Items and the bug ends.

Has anyone found a way to fix the issue playing Eco on Mac? All I get when I log into a server is a solid black layout. The sky is nice and blue and I can see the animals but the rest of the layout is a solid black… It’s all sad and stuff…

I’m sure they’ll fix it soon… a lot of people have Macs (including me). In the meantime, I’m working on my building skills while seeing nothing but black, which means by the time the bug is fixed, I am going to be a master builder!

I really want to play this game, but unsure if it works on Mac (OS X). Can anyone help?

Hey Julian, Yes Eco works on OS X. However it is not yet optimized for OS X. It will work better if you have a dedicated graphics card, so it depends on your Mac hardware. We will continue to refine and optimize the game. Thank you for your interest!

Hey, quick question – can we switch our usernames?
A friend gave an account to my personal email, and I’m not happy with the username that I ended up with (do we all just get usernames from whatever is in front of the @ in our emails?).

Also, please let me know when the Mac OS X problem is fixed. It’s kind of hard to build a Builder’s Hut when I can’t see anything.

Ok, download and start server, and write “localhost” as IP server.
Game started. I have now few things which I see. Where I can write feedback with my observations?

I just downloaded the Windows Client version. Successfully downloaded, launched, and signed in to the game but unable to connect to an IP. I tried typing in “localhost” but it didn’t work.

Going to try and download the server version.

Never mind, I was able to get the game to run by running the “Ecco Server” and then connected to it on the client using the “localhost” as the IP.

How did you get it to work? I downloaded both the server and the client. Open the server watcher and 2 windows pop up. One does nothing the other has eco modkit initializing and serialization initializing but then nothing happens. I then go back into the client and type in “localhost” into the IP field and says it can’t connect. Any advice? What am I doing wrong? Thanks

You said you will change the price of the game so how much will it cost tomorow?

When connecting with the client to my server it just shows the default Unity skybox 🙁
For the windows server, do we need to run the “CreateSymLink.bat” file?
Do we need to use some option of the ServerWatcher to start the world?
