We're Hiring

Meteor Destruct Sequence, Zoning, Ecosystem Tools, and more

October 6, 2015

Dev Blog 3, we’re plowing through tasks on our way to alpha, with a goal of getting it by the end of the month! Here’s what we’ve been up the past week.

Eric – eric@strangeloopgames.com

Working on crafting, research, skills, and UI. Still a few bugs, but not too far off having the whole tech tree built out.

Fuller – nfuller@strangeloopgames.com

Working on buildings and zoning. The effect is rough but here’s me zoning out a section of land:

Also, not pictured, is the real-time checks during construction that make sure the requirements set by the building owner are met.

Jeff – jeff@strangeloopgames.com

Putting the final touches on the account system. Will be ready to handle 21 different purchasing tiers, with special rewards for various tiers; such as game invites, source-code access, dev form and slack access. Current users will also be able to upgrade their account for higher rewards.

John – john@strangeloopgames.com

Working on balancing the ecosystem, building development tools to easily watch and track what’s happening.

K – klim@strangeloopgames.com

Project: BBS(Bring Back the Serialization).

Fixing Serialization bug so that everything will be saved correctly with tons of mods.

Keegan – keegan@strangeloopgames.com

Working on getting Kickstarter rewards ready for fulfilment, and catching up at the office after my trip abroad. Here’s a photo from my trip of the Bosco Verticale in Milan, a pair of residential buildings recently completed that each host a very diverse selection of trees, shrubs, and other plants on their facades. The plants reduce smog and help with heating the building in the winter.

Milenko – milenko@strangeloopgames.com

Working on the past-prototype visuals of the game, looking at different ways we can represent the world, and deciding which way we go with the asset production.

Did A meteor hit sequence here are a few frames:

We have a few ‘must have’ goals for alpha: crafting, buildings, skills, and food. Beyond that, we want to have a satisfying meteor destruction conclusion. We’ve decided we need a solid foundation for those 5 features before we release alpha, and that it’s more important to get those right even if it means slipping into November. We’re going to do all we can to get it by October though, so stay tuned!

Cheers and as always email us with any questions.

The Eco Team is a collection of introverted and sometimes genius programmers/designers based in Seattle and Australia. We all grew up and thrive in the video game culture, so of course making them is our dream job. We look forward to continuing to put out quality games for the community of players.

This looks great! Will there be other apocalypses then just meteors?

Keep up the good work, guys! :thumb:

    • RutraNickers

Well, there will be a nuclear apocalypses that can be caused by some players and world mass extinction caused by players.

Maybe planed but Drought, weather, rain/storm/ice, Climate (change), fire (by nature or player), eruptions, earthquakes, landslides, volcano… maybe a hardcore version with tectonic. (But I guess that would be way to hard to program.. I wouldn’t know where to start other than move/shift “ground” voxles/bloxs in a certain manner and declare (preset) certain areas to be one plate that moves like that and so.. causing Shifts, Subduction, … mountains, valleys.. and so an. Customisable speed and type/movement for teach and fun)

I know.. going way overboard.. but all that causes ecosystems to drastically shift and alter.
Also know as “force of nature”

Yes! I would love to do all that stuff. If we get our way its something we’ll add years from now, or get the community to help. Core game first for now.

There should be an ultimate version of the meteor strike, where if two ECO worlds have a meteor strike system within about a minute or so, then the actual ECO WORLDS collide, instead of just meteors!!

            – late-game goal.

Yep as Rutra said there can be a nuclear apocalypse, or just killing off the world from pollution.
